Simone Pheulpin: Sculptures textiles

Yesterday, i discovered the art made of textiles by the 70 year old french sculptor Simone Pheulpin.

The material she uses is very simple, just raw cotton bands that she gets from her native region of Vosges, situated in eastern France.
Those bands are unrecognizable once the piece is finished.
Simone modifies its structure by folding tightly or loose and by bending the material upon itself.
The stacks retain their shape thanks to pins. and the pieces all look organic like fossils or landscapes.

Just beautiful... i love fossils and have several of them at home.

Stationery

I fell in love with english stationery craftsmanship back in 2010 when i used to plan our wedding.
I wanted my invitations to be subtile and elegant and  found myself always liking the letter pressed or calligraphed in thick paper, the ones in black-white/silver. Unfortunately in my culture, we don't send black invitations. I opted for a silver one.

My mother is a bookbinder and she passed down on me her love of paper. While growing up, i remember her making cards, invitations and little notebooks.
This is actually something she would have done. Simple but elegant.
It would be nice to pop out your Tiffany's silver business card holder...if i had one, i would be sharing my cards with anyone.

I would go anytime with monogrammed seals and wax- so timeless!

De toute façon, in our bussy, fast going world, we kind of lost the use of handwriting letters, invitations and thank you notes...
We should go back to that, because it is far more personal and beautiful than a text message.

Red, Red, Cabernet

Ever since this year's MET Gala in May, we have known which beauty trend will hit the streets and shops this spring and last till fall: deep, dark lips.

Spring traditionally is reserved for the lighter hues, but this time the trendsetting Ladies have proven once again that rules are meant to be broken.

We first saw the trend upcoming on the runway shows of Parbal Gurung and Donna Karan but the leading ladies in Fashion and showbizz have shown their take on the look:

From  Lana Del Ray, over Camilla Belle, Kate Bosworth and Amber Valetta to Jessica Chastain and Alba- they all have sported rich, red wine tones.

Amber Valetta took the detailing on her Prada gown as inspiration on her pink cheeks and burgundy lips.

Kate Bosworth wearing the NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in VOLGA

As for Camilla, she went for a 20's inspired drama look by wearing a custom made lipstick in 3 different shades.
(personally, my fave...copycat i am)

I am still on the hunt for the Chanel Twin Set collection in the shade Provocation... but unfortunately it is part of an limited edition and was sold out at Fashion's Night Out in september in Paris.

If you want to recreate the look here some of the lipsticks i would choose:

Chanel Rouge Noir- made popular in the early 90-ies

MAC Smoked Purple, Prince Noir and Rebel

Guerlain Gigolo

Dior Addict Perfecto and Black Tie

Started in spring- this look isn't only good looking in autumn, but in any season!!

Tamara de Lempicka

What do you think of when hearing about the "roaring twenties"?
Arts décoratifs, the great Gatsby and flapper dresses, the prohibition, the Jazz Age, the Charleston and gangsters bien sur.

The decade brought us not only the Chrysler Building but the first ever female painter superstar who inspires me  and others a lot: Tamara De Lempicka.

Some of you might never heard from her, but you most certainly have seen her paintings on posters and  Art Deco prints.

I love her selfportret- Tamara driving a Bugatti and la Fille en Vert below.

De Lempicka was born Maria Gorska in Poland to a wealthy family. Her life and lifestyle brought her first to Switzerland, St. Petersburg, Paris over Hollywood, where she becomes the favorite artist of the Hollywood stars to Mexico where she dies in 1980.

She painted them all- the rich, the successful, the best... and with many she also slept.

A beautiful and talented woman, ahead of her time: i can see where Lady Gaga get her inspiration from too..
