Discover Dijon: La chouette
Dijon can be discovered if you follow the owl.
The owl is Dijon's Mascot and the Owl's trail will lead you to all the sightseeing treasures Dijon has to offer.
The trail got it's name after the stone owl at the Notre Dame church.
Find it, rub it with your left hand and make a wish!! The owl will make you come back, and your wish come true.

Discover Dijon: Gustave Eiffel
Did you know that the famous Eiffel tower builder is a son of Dijon??
And did you know that there is the towerés little sister to be found in Dijon??
Well not exactly a little Eiffel tower... Gustave has designed Dijon's historic market building.
Everything you desire (to eat) can be found here on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturday mornings.
I used to go there grocery shopping almost weekly every tuesday and friday... but now i only have time to do so randomly on saturdays...

Discover Dijon: Well of Moses
The well of Moses was the greatest creation of Claus Sluter who was the most creative and most powerful sculptor in the late middle ages.
At the end of the 14th century, the Chartreuse de Champmol monastery was intended to be the burying place for the Duke of Burgundy- Phillip the Bold and his family.
The well once consisted of a large crucification scene with a tall slender Cross surmounting a hexagonal base.
The figures depicted in the Wall of Moses are Jesus Christ and the Old Testament Prophets: Moses, David, Jeremiah, Zachariah, Daniel and Isaiah, who have foreseen the death of Christ on the Cross.
These life sized figures are displayed in a hexagonal manner as to guide the viewer all the way around. This allows to make eye-contact with the figures on every side.
Standing on slender colonnades on the corners are six mourning Angels.
The work was damaged during The French Revolution. Only fragments of the crucification scene have survived and and are now housed by the Musée Archéologique in Dijon. The hexagonal base is now in the Hôpital de la Chartreuse and can be visited by tourists.

Discover Dijon: Fabrice Gillotte
Fabrice Gillotte is Dijon's most famous chocolatier. He is even one of 12 best ones in France.
You can find his shop in the city centre of Dijon, as well as in Tokyo.
In my opinion his maccarons are better than the ones Ladurée makes. I know, everyone knows Ladurée or Pierre Hermé, but you know how this works when you turn on the marketing machinery...
Every time i visit his shop i use to have his famous ganache à la bergamote...there really is nothing better.
For every season he offers a new selection. For example, for easter he offers huge eggs filled with pralinées or for the rugby championships he made rugby-balls, and players entirely made of chocolate. He really is a craftsmen, every thing he makes is just fantastic.
If you don't have the chance to visit one of his shops, go visit his site and order online.

I used to live in Germany and my husband in France. We kept our relationship on a distance for about 2 years. Ever now and then he used to send me packages with small gifts and there was always a boîte de Gillotte filled with different pralinées and ganaches.
I admit, this is how he seduced me... he found out about my sweet tooth...

Discover Dijon: Velodi
Dijon, the capital of Burgundy, is a very cycle friendly city. Public bikes are available for residents and tourists at more than 40 bike stands in the city centre allowing you to pick a bike and then leave it at another stand.
Les Dijonnais call them Velodi (velo for bike and di for Dijon) In Paris you can find Vélib and in Lyon Velov.
All you need is an access to the internet and a credit card: you will get an access number and a pin for 1 €.
Using Velodi is free for the first 30 minutes, which is great. For a bus ticket you need to pay 1€ per direction.
